SKYCLIMB 2027 – Penang Hill Hiking Challenge is a vertical running event up Penang Hill. Participants climb 2.36 km with 631 m of elevation gain along the Penang Hill Heritage Trail (via the public trail), starting at the Heritage Arch and finishing at the Hilltop. Runners are flagged off one by one on a 10-second countdown, and every finisher's official time is recorded by timing chip.
The race is held while the Penang Hill funicular is closed to the public for maintenance, giving runners a quieter trail and better crowd control. The top finisher in each category will have their name added to the permanent SkyClimb Hall of Fame board beside the finish, giving runners a reason to return each year and beat the record.
Objectives
- To promote a healthy and active lifestyle through a challenging vertical running and hiking event.
- To showcase Penang Hill and its heritage trail as a sports and tourism destination.
- To create an annual event that recognises outstanding athletes through the SkyClimb Hall of Fame and encourages runners to return each year.
